Conklin, (Margaret Eleanor) Peggy

Conklin, [Margaret Eleanor] Peggy (1912–2003), actress. A native of Dobbs Ferry, New York, she began her career as a chorus girl in 1928 but soon revealed skills as a comedienne and serious actress. Her important assignments included Prudence Kirkland, who loves a Hessian soldier, in The Pursuit of Happiness (1933); Gabby Maple, who wins the affection of the forlorn hero, in The Petrified Forest (1935); Ellen Murray, who has liberal ideas about love, in Yes, My Darling Daughter (1937); Mrs. North, half of a husband‐and‐wife detective team, in Mr. and Mrs. North (1941); and Flo Owens, whose family is transformed by the arrival of a vagrant, in Picnic (1953).
