Cain's Warehouse

Cain's Warehouse. Opened by John J. Cain in the late 1880s or early 1890s, it specialized in storing theatrical scenery of closed Broadway shows. The scenery was then rented to touring and stock companies. “Going to Cain's” became a euphemism for closing a show. The warehouse itself closed in 1938 when the shrinking road and the decline of stock companies deprived it of its market.
