vascular bundle
World Encyclopedia | Date: 2005
vascular bundle Strand of conductive tissue that transports water and dissolved mineral salts and nutrients in a
vascular plant. They extend from the roots, through the stem, and out to the leaves. They consist of two types of tissue:
xylem, which conducts water from the roots to the shoot and is located towards the centre of the bundle; and
phloem, which conducts salts and nutrients and forms the outer regions of the bundle.

Strength analysis of bamboo by microscopic investigation of bamboo fibre.
Construction and Building Materials; 7/1/2008; Lo, Tommy Y. Cui, H.Z. Tang, P.W.C. Leung, H.C.; 787 words
; Abstract This paper presents the mechanical properties of two bamboo species, namely Mao Zhu and Kao Zhu, which are commonly used for scaffolding in Southern China. Variations of the compressive strength against the physical properties of bamboo along the culms for both bamboo species were

Diarch Symmetry of the Vascular Bundle in Arabidopsis Root Encompasses the Pericycle and Is Reflected in Distich Lateral Root Initiation1[W]
Plant Physiology; 1/1/2008; Parizot, Boris; Laplaze, Laurent; Ricaud, Lilian; Boucheron-Dubuisson, Elodie; Bayle, Vincent; Bonke, Martin; De Smet, Ive; Poethig, Scott R; Helariutta, Yka; Haseloff, Jim; Chriqui, Dominique; Beeckman, Tom; Nussaume, Laurent; 787 words
; The outer tissues of dicotyledonous plant roots (i.e. epidermis, cortex, and endodermis) are clearly organized in distinct concentric layers in contrast to the diarch to polyarch vascular tissues of the central stele. Up to now, the outermost layer of the stele, the pericycle, has always been

Differential Expression of Sucrose Transporter and Polyol Transporter Genes during Maturation of Common Plantain Companion Cells
Plant Physiology; 1/1/2004; Ramsperger-Gleixner, Martina; Geiger, Dietmar; Hedrich, Rainer; Sauer, Norbert; 787 words
; The cDNAs of two sorbitol transporters, common plantain (Plantago major) polyol transporter (PLT) 1 and 2 (PmPLTl and PmPLT2), were isolated from a vascular bundle-specific cDNA library from common plantain, a dicot plant transporting Suc plus sorbitol in its phloem. Here, we describe the kinetic

Genetic regulation of vascular tissue patterning in arabidopsis
Plant Cell; 11/1/1999; Carland, Francine M; Berg, Barbara L; Fitzgerald, Jonathan N; Jinamornphongs, Suchaya; Et al; 787 words
; Plants transport water and nutrients through a complex vascular network comprised of interconnected, specialized cell types organized in discrete bundles. To identify genetic determinants of vascular tissue patterning, we conducted a screen for mutants with altered vascular bundle organization in
