spider monkey Medium-sized, arboreal (tree-dwelling) monkey found from s Mexico to se Brazil. It has long, spidery legs, a fully prehensile tail, and is an agile climber, using the tail as a fifth limb. It eats mainly fruit and nuts. Genera Ateles and Brachyteles.
