soya bean Annual plant native to China and Japan. It has oval, three-part leaves, and small lilac flowers. Grown internationally for food, forage, green manure, and oil, its seed is an important source of protein. Height: 60cm (24in). Family Fabaceae/Leguminosae; species Glycine max.
