ionic compound
ionic compound Substance formed by ionic bonding, a chemical bond of positively and negatively charged
ions. Salts, bases and some acids are ionic compounds. As crystalline solids, they have high melting points and boiling points. As solids, they are nonconductors of electricity, and are usually soluble in water but insoluble in organic solvents. In the liquid and molten states, ionic compounds are good conductors.
