The greatest falls by volume are the Boyoma (formerly Stanley) Falls on the River Congo (Zaïre), with a mean annual flow of 17,000 cu m/sec (600,000 cu ft/sec). The Niagara Falls and the Victoria Falls (Mosi oa Tunya, “the smoke that thunders”) are 4th and 9th respectively, in terms of volume; though both are relatively modest in height.
