gallstone
gallstone (cholelithiasis) Hard mass, usually composed of cholesterol and calcium salts, which forms in the
gall bladder. Gallstones may cause severe pain or become lodged in the common bile duct, causing obstructive
jaundice or cholecystitis. Treatment is by removal of the stones or of the gall bladder.
