epiphyte (air plant) Plant that grows on another plant, but is not a
parasite. Epiphytes usually have aerial roots and produce their own food by
photosynthesis. They are common in tropical forests. Examples are some
ferns,
orchids, Spanish moss, and many
bromeliads.
