Voyager program Space exploration project to study
Jupiter,
Saturn,
Uranus, and
Neptune, using two unmanned craft. In 1977, the two Voyager probes were launched (16 days apart) from Kennedy Space Center at
Cape Canaveral, Florida, USA. In 1979, they beamed back the first close-up pictures of Jupiter. The probes then passed Saturn, and showed the structure of the planet's rings. Voyager 2 went on to study Uranus in 1986, and Neptune in 1989. Both probes have now left the Solar System.
