Mboya, Thomas Joseph

Mboya, Thomas Joseph (1930–69) Kenyan political leader. Mboya rejected Kenya's 1954 constitution and campaigned for independence. When Jomo Kenyatta established the African National Union (KANU), Mboya became general secretary. He served as minister for economic development and planning (1964–69) in Kenya's first post-colonial government. His assassination provoked rioting against the Kikuyu.
