Lineker, Gary Winston

Lineker, Gary Winston (1960– ) English footballer. Lineker was the leading scorer in the 1986 World Cup finals in Mexico. He then moved from Leicester City to Barcelona before following manager Terry Venables to Tottenham Hotspur (1989). He scored 48 goals in 80 internationals, failing by one goal to equal Bobby Charlton's scoring record for England. He retired from football in 1995, and took up sports journalism.
