Léger, Fernand
Léger, Fernand (1881–1955) French painter. An influential member of the School of Paris, he evolved a form of
cubism jokingly called ‘tubism’ because of its emphasis on cylindrical, mechanical forms. Examples include the series
Contrast of Forms (1913). Léger directed the first non-narrative film
Ballet méchanique (1924).
