Jones, Inigo
Jones, Inigo (1573–1652) English architect, stage designer, and painter. Jones introduced a pure
classical style based on the work of Andrea
Palladio. His knowledge of Italian architecture gained him enormous prestige in
Jacobean and Carolingian England. Buildings include Queen's House, Greenwich (1616–35), and Banqueting House, Whitehall (1619–21).
