Internet (Net) Worldwide communications system consisting of hundreds of small
computer networks, interconnected by
telephone systems. It is a network of networks in which messages and data are sent using short local links from place to place. This enables users to send a message anywhere in the world by
electronic mail (e-mail) for the cost of a local phone call. The Internet or
