c.65–08 bc) Roman poet, b. Quintus Horatius Flaccus. His first
Satires appeared in
c.35 bc, and were followed by
Epodes (
c.30 bc),
Odes (
c.23 bc),
Epistles (
c.20 bc), and
Ars Poetica (
c.19 bc). His simple Latin lyrics provided a vivid picture of the Augustan age.
