George II
George II (1683–1760) King of Great Britain and Ireland and Elector of Hanover (1727–1760), son of
George I. Like his father, he was more German than English. Sir Robert
Walpole dominated politics early in the reign. George survived a
Jacobite revolt (1745) and was the last British king to lead his army in battle, at Dettingen (1746). George witnessed great victories overseas in the
Seven Years' War.
