Birmingham Six

Birmingham Six Six Irishmen convicted by an English court in 1974 of carrying out terrorist bombings in two public houses in Birmingham, England. Their life sentences were quashed in 1991. The Court of Appeal ruled that methods used by the police in obtaining some written statements were inappropriate. The court also found that much of the circumstantial forensic evidence given by expert witnesses was unreliable. Five of the men were duly released; the sixth had died in prison. Their case became notorious as a modern miscarriage of British justice. See also Guildford Four
