sub-metallic Applied to the lustre of a mineral which is intermediate between metallic and non-metallic. Varieties of chromite or sphalerite may give a rather dull, metallic appearance on occasions and might therefore be described as submetallic. There is no sharp distinction between ‘metallic’ and ‘sub-metallic’.
