recrystallization 1. The growth of new
mineral grains from pre-existing mineral grains by the solid-state
diffusion of
ions in response to a change in temperature, pressure, or composition of the rock system.
2. The changing of crystal
fabric or crystal size without an accompanying change in mineral chemistry.
