pelite
pelite (adj.
pelitic) An aluminium-rich,
metamorphic rock formed by the
metamorphism of clay-rich
sedimentary rocks, e.g.
shales and
mudstones. The type of aluminium-bearing
silicate minerals seen in the rock depends on the pressure and temperature of the metamorphism but usually includes one of the
mica group minerals.
Quartz is ubiquitous in pelites.
