camp X

camp X, preliminary training camp for SOE personnel which opened on 9 December 1941. Officially designated Special Training School No. 103, it was situated near Oshawa, Ontario, Canada, and was administered by British Security Co-ordination. Originally, the idea for its construction was to help the Americans acquire SOE's methods of clandestine warfare in anticipation of the USA entering the war, and until 1944, when it closed, it gave basic training to some 500 recruits from Canada, the UK, and the USA. It also housed a telecommunications centre, which became the principal channel between London, Ottawa, and Washington for top secret intelligence material.
