Wenck, Lt-General Walther

Wenck, Lt-General Walther (1901–82),German Army officer who was operations officer of the German Army High Command (OKH) from July 1944 and then commander of German Twelfth Army. In April 1945 during the battle which preceded the fall of Berlin Hitler ordered Wenck to break the ring of Soviet troops around the German capital, but by then Wenck's army, which included teenage members of the Hitler Youth, was not much more than a figment of the Führer's imagination. Wenck was supposed to command the Werewolves which were to hold out in the National Redoubt in southern Germany, but the Redoubt never materialized.
