Volksdeutsche

Volksdeutsche were communities of German-speaking minorities living outside Germany. In European countries which had been awarded German territory after the First World War Volksdeutsche were often accused of being fifth columnists (see Chart ). But though they played a substantial role in the Sudetenland, and some in Poland and Yugoslavia, their importance in helping the invading German armies was exaggerated at the time.
