Terboven, Josef

Terboven, Josef (1898–1945),German politician who was a member of the Reichstag from 1930 and an early supporter of the Nazis. In April 1940 he was appointed Reich Commissioner of occupied Norway. During the war years he ensured that Norway's economy was geared to Germany's needs, encouraged the collaborators around Quisling, and suppressed the Norwegian resistance with great severity. He committed suicide before he could be captured.See also Norway, 3.
