Sosnkowski, General Kazimierz

Sosnkowski, General Kazimierz (1885–1969),Polish Army officer who was deputy commander of the army during the Polish campaign in September 1939. After the death of General Sikorski in July 1943, he commanded the armed forces controlled by the Polish government-in-exile and became the successor of the new Polish president, Stanisław Mikołajczyk. His strongly patriotic views offended the Soviet Union, which urged the British government to press for his resignation, and in 1944–5 he was, de facto, interned in Canada.
