Patria, sinking of

Patria, sinking of. After the British Navy intercepted two vessels taking 2,000 illegal Jewish immigrants to Palestine in November 1940 they were transferred to the Patria for internment on Mauritius. The Haganah, in an attempt to prevent it leaving, accidentally sank it and 250 lives were lost. See also Final Solution.
