Paiforce

Paiforce, officially called Persia and Iraq Command, this British command was formed in August 1942 when Persia and Iraq were split off from Middle East Command. Its British, Indian, and Polish troops of Anders' Army—designated Tenth Army—guarded the Persian and Iraqi oilfields, constructed bases, and organized the flow of Lend-Lease supplies from Persia to the USSR. It was commanded first by Maitland Wilson and then, from March 1943, by General Henry Pownall, by which time its forces had been reduced to those needed for internal security purposes only.
