Odessa organization

Odessa organization, fictional body alleged to have been founded by Austrian Nazis after the fall of the Third Reich to help those who had committed war crimes and were wanted by Allied, German, and Austrian prosecuting authorities to escape abroad. Though the organization never existed, there were certain avenues of escape, called ratlines, for Nazi criminals and collaborators (see Vatican), one of which (Tirol–Rome–Genoa–South America or Near East) was later dubbed the Odessa Route. Odessa was an abbreviation of Organisation der ehemaligen SS-Angehörigen (Organization of former SS members).
