Muselier, Vice-Admiral Émile

Muselier, Vice-Admiral Émile (1882–1965),Free French naval forces commander, then commissioner for the navy on the French National Committee, who is credited with being the first to suggest the Cross of Lorraine as the Free French emblem. De Gaulle found him politically difficult and three months after occupying the French Atlantic colony of St Pierre and Miquelon in December 1941 he resigned. He later joined General Giraud in North Africa who appointed him civil and military commander of Algiers.
