McEwen, Air Vice-Marshal Clifford

McEwen, Air Vice-Marshal Clifford (1896–1967),First World War Canadian fighter ace who by 1941 had reached the rank of air commodore. After commanding the 1st (Maritime) Group of the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) in St John's, Newfoundland, he took command in January 1944 of the RCAF's 6th (Bomber) Group in northern England, and his forceful personality improved its morale and its performance.
