Maczek, Lt-General Stanisław

Maczek, Lt-General Stanisław (1892–1994),Polish Army officer who commanded a motorized brigade in the Polish campaign. He escaped to the UK, was promoted maj-general, then commanded the 1st Polish Armoured Division which, as part of the First Canadian Army, fought in north-west Europe, notably at Falaise during the Normandy campaign and in the Netherlands. He was promoted lt-general in May 1945.
