Kripo

Kripo, or Kriminalpolizei (criminal police), was the German state criminal investigation branch. In 1936, when Himmler embarked on a reorganization of the police it became, with the Gestapo, a branch of the newly formed Sicherheitspolizei, or Sipo (security police), which was headed by Reinhard Heydrich. When the RSHA (Reichssicherheitshauptamt) was formed in September 1939 it became the RSHA's Department (Amt) V.
