Kimmel, Admiral Husband E.

Kimmel, Admiral Husband E. (1882–1968),C-in-C of the US Pacific Fleet which was attacked in Pearl Harbor by the Japanese on 7 December 1941. He was relieved of his command, found guilty of dereliction of duty, and retired. In 1944 a naval court of inquiry cleared him, but the post-war Congressional inquiry did not, though it said that he was guilty of errors of judgement, not dereliction of duty.
