Khatin

Khatin, one of many villages in Belorussia, which in 1941–4 were the scene of massacres perpetrated by German forces in reprisal for partisan activity. It was selected by the Soviet authorities after the war as the site of Belorussia's national war memorial, presumably to confuse public awareness concerning the Katyń massacre.
