Fritsch, General Baron Werner von (1880–1939),German Army officer who served as a staff officer during the First World War. He was promoted maj-general in October 1932, and lt-general and C-in-C of the army in February 1934.

In January 1938 a trumped-up charge of homosexuality was brought against him which coincided with the marriage scandal of the minister of war, Field Marshal Blomberg. The plot, almost certainly instigated by Göring, but which also involved Himmler and Heydrich, was quickly seized upon by Hitler as a chance to establish his own ascendancy over the army. A week after he dismissed Blomberg he demanded, and received on 3 February, Fritsch's resignation. At his military trial Fritsch was found not guilty, but he was not reinstated.

At the outbreak of war Fritsch returned to his old regiment and was killed in the attack on Warsaw during the Polish campaign.
