Freisler, Roland

Freisler, Roland (1893–1945),Nazi judge who became state secretary in the ministry of justice in 1934, and from 1942 presided over the People's Court (Volksgerichtshof) in Berlin. After he had tried and had executed many of the conspirators in the July 1944 bomb plot against Hitler (see Schwarze Kapelle), he was killed in an air raid in February 1945 while presiding over the trial of two members of the German resistance, Frau Hanna Solf and her daughter. The bomb also destroyed all the evidence against them and they survived the war.
