Force K

Force K, British naval squadron which operated during the battle for the Mediterranean to attack Italian convoys supplying Axis forces fighting the Western Desert campaigns. Formed in October 1941 during the siege of Malta—the island was its base—it destroyed two convoys before a minefield off Tripoli crippled or sank three of its cruisers and a destroyer after the first battle of Sirte in December 1941. The force was reconstituted in January 1943 after the siege of Malta had been lifted.
