FLIVOS

FLIVOS, contraction of Fliegerverbindungsoffiziere, Luftwaffe liaison officers at German Army headquarters, down to divisional level. They played vital roles in securing army–air co-operation in each blitzkrieg in 1940–2; thereafter, unconsciously, they were most useful to the Allies. They sent frequent reports of order of battle in an ENIGMA cipher that was comparatively easy to break and which therefore gave significant aid to those at Bletchley Park in providing ULTRA intelligence.
