Dominican Republic, with Haiti, makes up the Caribbean island of Hispaniola (see
Caribbean at war). It declared war on the Axis powers in December 1941 and was an original signatory of the
United Nations Declaration. It sold its sugar crop to the USA and the UK, and helped the USA patrol its coastline. See also
