Dalmatian Islands

Dalmatian Islands. Situated off Yugoslavia's Adriatic coastline, the larger ones were garrisoned by Italian troops after the end of the Balkan campaign in April 1941 and were taken over by the Germans after Italy surrendered in September 1943. One of the exceptions, Vis, became an Allied stronghold.
