Christison, Lt-General Sir Philip

Christison, Lt-General Sir Philip (1893–1993),British Army officer who commanded the 15th Indian Army Corps, part of Slim's Fourteenth Army, in the Arakan during the Burma campaign. The stubborn defence of his troops during the Admin Box battle foiled Japanese plans to draw off British reserves before the Fifteenth Japanese Army launched its Imphal offensive in March 1944. He was knighted in 1944.
