Bureau Central de Rensignements et d'Action

Bureau Central de Rensignements et d'Action (BCRA) (Central Bureau of Information and Action) was the intelligence service of de Gaulle and the Free French, formed in January 1942 and headed by André Dewavrin alias Colonel Passy. Its original title was BCRAM, but the ‘M’ (militaire) was dropped in July 1942 when a sixth, non-military, section was added to the other five. The sections were: command, including liaison with Allied commands; intelligence, including liaison with MI6; recruitment and assignment of agents (see also spies), including liaison with SOE; counter-intelligence, including liaison with MI5; and a technical section dealing with ciphers, accounts, and similar matters.
