Tales of the Grotesque and Arabesque, first collection of stories by Poe, published in two volumes in December 1839, dated 1840. The title was suggested by an essay of Sir Walter Scott, and the collection included 25 stories, among them “MS. Found in a Bottle,” “The Assignation,” “Berenice,” “Morella,” “Ligeia,” “The Fall of the House of Usher,” “William Wilson,” and “The Unparalleled Adventure of One Hans Pfaall.”
