The Buffalo Hunters (1954), a historical study;
Son of the Gamblin' Man (1960), a novel about the young Robert Henri in frontier Nebraska before he became a famous painter;
Love Song to the Plains (1961), recording history and personal feelings;
These Were the Sioux (1961);
The Beaver Men (1964), a history of the American fur trade; and
The Battle of the Little Big Horn (1978).
The Christmas of Phonograph Records (1966) is a memoir.
