Pioneers! O Pioneers!, poem by Whitman published in Drum‐Taps (1865) and in the “annex” to Leaves of Grass (1867).

In 26 quatrains, each ending with the refrain that gives the poem its title, Whitman celebrates the frontier spirit with a paean of praise concerning the unique American qualities of optimism, self‐reliance, equality, and revolt against the European past.
