Illinois Monthly Magazine, The

Illinois Monthly Magazine, The (1830–37),edited and mainly written by James Hall, was the first literary periodical west of Ohio. In 1832, when Hall moved to Cincinnati, he changed the title to The Western Monthly Magazine and continued it as a dignified literary journal and local review. His editorship ended in 1836.
