Humble‐Bee, The

Humble‐Bee, The, poem by Emerson, published in 1839 and reprinted in Poems (1847). In six stanzas of irregular four‐stress couplets, the verses celebrate the wisdom and virtues of the “yellow‐breeched philosopher,” who mocks at care, “sipping only what is sweet,” and taking account of only what is cheerful and excellent.
