Everett, Alexander Hill

Everett, Alexander Hill (1790–1847), Boston diplomat, essayist, editor, and educator whose diplomatic experience in Russia, Holland, and Spain (1809–29) furnished the basis of the books Europe (1822) and America (1827). As an editor of The North American Review he contributed translations from European and Oriental literatures that influenced the Transcendentalist movement, as well as the material collected in Essays, Critical and Miscellaneous (1845–46).
