Conrad, Robert Taylor

Conrad, Robert Taylor (1810–58), Philadelphia journalist and dramatist, author of such tragedies as Conrad, King of Naples (1832) and Jack Cade (1835). He chaired the prize committee (1843) which awarded $100 to Poe's The Gold‐Bug as the best story sent to Dollar Magazine. He was mayor of Philadelphia (1854–56).
